I'm using GarageBand quite a bit and I'm recording 7-8 tracks simultaneously and then I need to add another 8-10 tracks or more. Basically, I'm going to need to be able to max out the capabilities of GarageBand. I'm starting to run into problems such as:

error message when recording "Disk Not Spinning Fast Enough (-1600)

error message "some tracks were not played, there are too many real instrument tracks for this song to play in real time"

Songs with many tracks un-syncing visual display with audio

I have an older Mac Mini (pre-intel) with G4, 4200 RPM, 80 gig, 512 RAM. I was considering an external HD but am also considering a newer Mini with Core Duo or an iMac. Anyone with genuine knowledge/experience have any input on what would be most effective and cost effective?
