A friend of mine recently gave me her old Emac G4. She told me it just had a bunch of viruses and stuff *laugh* so I knew I was getting a great deal. So I took it home, turned it on and sure enough, the computer was really screwed up. Somehow she really messed up OS 10.3 so bad that I was gonna have to reinstall everything.

She didn't have any of the original restore discs so I borrowed some from another friend who has this exact EMac, but when I put them in and hold C while rebooting, they don't boot to the cd. The only disc that will boot is my 10.4 upgrade dvd.

So what I tried to do (this ended up being really dumb) is use disc utility in the 10.4 dvd to erase the harddrive. Don't ask me why, it was really dumb. Now I just have an Emac that won't boot to anything but the 10.4 dvd which is completely pointless.

Any ideas?

Why can't you install OSX off your 10.4 DVD?

It's an upgrade DVD. there's nothing to upgrade on a blank HD.

Now that the HD is blank, your computer might be really happy to see a cd in the drive with a system folder on it. Have you tried the original emac discs again? Pry open the door if you have to. Worked for me once when I upgraded the HD in my emac 733.
