I pulled the DVD drive out and then replaced it only to rip part of the connecting ribbon. Is there something I could purchase that I could place in upstream of the rip and lead a new ribbon from it? Yeah I just purchased this MP a week ago.

You could just get a new ribbon cable. If you ask in the marketplace I'm sure someone will send one for the cost of shipping.
We are talking about a standard ide cable right?

I thought about that too, but as I looked at it I would have to take a the fans out and probably the cover over the heat sink. Not to mention I have no idea where exactly on the MB is the ribbon connecting to. I think its just a regular IDE cable- anyone know?

Looking inside my Mac Pro, I cannot easily see a place where the IDE cable connects to.
You have some taking apart to do

It shouldn't be that hard. I took the MP to CompUSA (apple certified) told the guy what happened and to my surprise he said it is covered under the Apple warranty (?!!). I didn't want to argue....So hopefully the new cable comes in later this week. Honestly, There is enough room in the box to do it yourself it just comes down to confidence I guess.
It will be nice to have my dvd drive though....

I have installed and removed many many IDE cables over the years, and I have NEVER EVER broken one. If Apple is covering that under their warranty, I think it's an issue with their supplier not living up to the spec.

My point was that Apple would NEVER (or any other manufacturer) cover a mistake caused by me under their warranty. What really happened is that the guy in the repair shop prolly misunderstood me and just ordered a ribbon because he was too busy to listen to my explanation at the desk and assumed that it came broken. To be honest they were slammed with soccer moms / grandfathers bringing in their desktops for bi-annular de-spamming and virus protection.
