i would like to know what kind of hard drive for a powermac g4
here is a link to the specs Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) - Technical Specifications
also is it possible to boot from a external drive

You need a regular parallel ATA drive, same as in PCs. However, like with old PCs, you won't be able to access more than 127 GB, unless you buy an ATA card.

And yes, you'll be able to boot from external FireWire drives. (Intel Macs can also boot from USB devices.)

Can you get OSX disc? If you can and the PM is OK except no HD then you should be able to boot from the disc. If the drive tray won't open you will need an ex cd/dvd drive to boot. All deatil info can be found at the 1st url I pasted.
