Anyone know of a way to quiet down this jet engine posing as a superdrive in my Mac Pro? I can't hear the damn movie from it. It the Pioneer 111D.

Rip the movie to your hard drive first, then play from disk?
My 111D is quiet.

There are utilities for Windows and Linux to slow down the drive. There's got to be something for OS X. The drive is inaudible at 4X. I sent the DVD Player people feedback requesting to slow down the drive while playing. That'd be a nice touch - kind of Mac like...

I upgraded the firmware of my original DVD drive that came with the PM G5 DP 2.0, and unfortunately, it went from silent to VERY LOUD!
I reverted the firmware and it restored the silence...
This procedure needs to be done on a PC and cannot be done on a mac

I just applied the original Pioneer firmware and all is well. It's always silent with music/video and always fast and loud with data.
mduell, only a couple of DVDs exibited this behaviour. You just need to find yours...
BTW, what were they thinking with this firmware????

So far my 111D has been pretty quiet. My lite-on is very loud, and my old pioneer 104 was somewhere in the middle.
