So my parents still have their 1Ghz imac chugging away, but its getting a little slow. 256mb of RAM, and it's still running 10.2.8. Im going to order an additional stick of RAM, and get them a copy of Tiger so they can be up to date.

But I remember reading that the imacs maxed out at 1gb of RAM, and since the 256 stick was installed in the factory slot, I would have to settle with a 512 stick for a total of 768. I was looking at this from Crucial.com But the apple site says their imac's RAM is PC2100, but crucial recommends PC2700. Will it still work ok, and will Tiger be fast enough with only 768mbs?

Also, I'm going to upgrade the HD in the coming months, any recommendations?

PC2700 is fine in a box that needs PC2100. 768MB is OK for a PowerPC Mac.

For the HDD, 320GB is about the sweet spot at under $100.

awesome, thanks. I wasn't sure if the different speeds were going to affect it at all.
