I just purchased a X800 XT AGP video card for my G5 Dual 2G, which is currently using a ATI 9600 Pro.

The problem is, when I plug this card in, the system won't boot. I can hear the startup chim but the screen just remains dark and I don't even get to the gray screen.

I tried zapping the PRAM, and the problem is still the same. Won't even boot in safe mode when I keep the shift key pressed down.

The machine works well when I put back in the 9600 Pro.

The card probably isn't a lemon as the seller brought 5 of those to my place and all of them have the same problem (he claimed that all of the cards work at his office and he tested them all).

I have already installed the latest drivers etc downloaded from the ATI website.

Anyone has any idea as to how to fix it?

Many thanks.

I don't know as a fact but the seller said so and said he tested all the 5 cards on his G5.

Is it possible for me to verify this?

It shouldn't have a molex connector at the end for the PC version, where the thors hardware logo is.

As you can see with the Mac version it doesn't exist.

There is a firmware revision that, depending on why the card is misbehaving, fixed this issue. Check the ATI website.

Thanks, will look for that. But can I flash the ROM without being able to boot up? I can install whatever I can with the original 9600 Pro plugged in, but so far no success in booting up with the X800...

Have you tried resetting the SMU on the PM G5, after inserting the card? How to reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) or Power Mac G5 (Late 2005)

That's about the only thing I can think of.

I don't know if I installed the ATI drivers as the ATI drivers come with the MacOS and I think I figured they would be up-to-date since my MacOS was up-to-date.

what type of monitor are you using, Apple Display? and are you using any type of adapter? It should have a DVI and VGA port. You might want to try different configurations with the hook up.
good luck
