I purchased a Intel Imac about 3 weeks ago (2.16 core 2 Duo). This thing was so freakin fast, I felt I could have used the machine for a good six years easy. Anyway I ran into a problem with the backlight bleeding at the bottom of the screen. I wanted to keep the machine but I couldn't keep it. When you watched movies or if you viewed a black image on screen, the backlight at the bottom left and right areas of the screen were extremely light, it wasn't good at all. I took it back to the genious bar and spent a while explaining my issue, I was told that it was normal, so I told him that I still wanted it returned and I would take the restocking fee anyway. The Man was helpful in the end by waving the restocking fee, he recommended me to get a MacPro. The MacPro was way out of my Budget.
One week later I purchased a Mac Mini 1.83 w/ 1gig ram (would have purchased w/2gig but they were out of Ram). I thought the Mini was going to be kind of slow. This thing is still very fast. I've read so many post about the new Minis and the built in Graphics card, but in my opinion all of the new intel machines are fast. I'm coming from G4 533, so thats a huge leap in speed. When the UB of Photoshop and Illustrator come out in a few months, this machine is going to be a very capable machine for PS. For Video Editing, you'll need a machine with a dedicated graphics card.

For video editing with todays apps, the integrated graphics should be fine. It's only in apps like Motion and Aperture where you need a dedicated card.

Integrated graphics or not, I just replaced my G4 mini (1.42/1GB) with a 1.83 mini, 1GB, and this thing is smoking fast.

Yeah, mine's pretty fast, too, until I open up Parallels (with Windows XP) and about 3-4 fatty PowerPC applications. Then things start grinding to a crawl when switching applications - I wish the Mini didn't have a 2 GB RAM limit - I could use 4.

I would have told him he was an idiot and/or demanded to speak to a manager.

Yeah I've used both FCE and FCP on a mini with no problems at all, even with hdv. Sure the render times might not be as snappy as the top of the line imac, but that doesn't render the thing useless at all.
