How do I play an AVI file?

I have a lot of AVI files that i used to play on my windows PC, I didn't know that macs can't play AVI's natively, so no desperate housewived for me

So what do I need to play an AVI file?

Download:

Windows Media Player for Mac
DivX.com: DivX Video Player & DivX Video Codec

These should give you the proper codecs to play avi files.

Download the WMP plugin for Quicktime:

That will work better than the now-old WMP for MacOS X. Grab VLC while you're at it, but for many WMVs, I've found Flip4Mac's plugin + Quicktime works better than VLC.

They usually can. Try perian.
