I took my Mac Pro in yesterday to fix a memory issue. They took the computer in the back so I couldn't see what they were doing.

Before going there the startup sound would come on fine. Now when I brought it home, I hear no startup sound at all when I boot my MP. It passes POST fine so I know that's not the issue.

What could be wrong? Could there be a cable somewhere on the mobo they forgot to connect?

Any help would be appreciated.

It uses the internal speaker on the Mac Pro - so play something in iTunes, and pull out any external speakers, and see if the internal one works.

and I assume the volume on the MacPro is up?
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

The volume was up.

This was weird. I usually have a pair of USB headphones plugged in. It's always worked with them - I'd hear the startup sound from the internal speakers and everything else would be in the headphones.

I took the headphones out, restarted, and I heard the startup sound. And so I plugged the USB headphones back in, and the sound is there everytime I restart now how it should be.

I have no idea how that solved the problem.
