My new Mac Pro has been working flawlessly, except for this buzzing sound from the inside of the computer. I was just about to call Apple about it, because it has been irritating me quite a bit. Anyway, I decided to open up the Mac Pro and I discovered what was actually causing the noise problem. It was the HD1 rack somehow vibrating against the case of the Mac Pro. I pulled on the HD1 rack a little to loosen it, and that seemed to help because the Mac Pro is running and I am not noticing that buzzing sound anymore. Woohoo!
I am going to get some soundproof foam and put it in between the HD1 rack and the HD itself to make sure there is no vibration being transferred to the Mac Pro's case. Right now, it is running quieter than my old Power Mac G4 (dual 1.25 GHz MDD) that I sold.
I have to say one thing... I am quite impressed at how easy it is to open the Mac Pro case from the side - beautiful.

carefull with that foam, that mac's inside was designed so that the air may flow in a certain way.
If it continues to vibrate, take it to repair...

No, don't put anything in there that wasn't designed to be in there.
This issue has come up over and over, and has been resolved over and over. For most of us the buzz started when we put a new drive in. Just reseat all the drive trays very well, that will stop it cold. If it doesn't, reseat 'em again, I assure you you don't need foam!

I am going to go ahead and say leave the foam out too - if your buzzing is gone then it's fixed.

So far, so good. Looks like the foam will not be needed after all. Since I opened the Mac Pro and pulled on the drive cage a bit, I have not had that buzzing sound - thankfully! I am going to put silicone grommets on the HD screws though, so any vibrations from the HD will be minimized when going to the HD1 rack.

Where does one find silicone grommets for use with hard drives? I searched google but come up with stuff dealing with washing machines and the like.
