The ATI Displays included with the new X1900 G5 card is actually a universal binary and worked just fine on my X1900 XT on this Mac Pro.

Also, it appears that I can force vsync on Doom3/Quake4 and the tearing goes away! I'll need to look closer to make sure.

Very cool.
Works so far here, too.
I'll have to test more extensively the OpenGL overrides, but this is a nice bonus.
Thanks, ATI (and AMD)!

Hey guys,
Don't want to admit it, but I'm not sure what the advantage is here? Mostly for gaming is it?

It is an application that lets you set all sorts of parameters that the standard Apple display control panel doesn't. Like screen rotation, antialiasing, etc. IIRC, theres even options to set these settings for each application. But yes, mostly its for games.

Anyone knows how to uninstall this? I don't want to do it right now but it's nice to know.

Finally!

Vsync is FIXED in Quake 4 and Doom 3.

However, Quake 4 still doesn't like Ultra Quality, and neither of them like FSAA.

Just now I started Quake 4 with everything maxed out, 16x anistrophic filtering, and vsync on. When I got on the ground, it was playing at 1 to 2 frames per second. The minute I got inside, It jumped to 60. Then a few seconds later, back to 3 or 4 fps. TOTALY unpredictable.

At High Quality, it playes as it should.

In both games however, FSAA makes me feel like i'm walking on grease, or on ice. Everything is all floopy and delayed. It doesn't feel firm.

Anyway, thanks for ATI Displays 4.5.9!

Unreal Tournament 2004 Universal Binary
1920x1200
4x FSAA
16x AF
Vsync On

Smooth as butter. And looks pretty damn good for a nearly 3 year old game.

You need to get a hold of version 4.5.9 of the ATI Displays software for MacOS X. The current public release version is 4.5.7, however. 4.5.9 for whatever reason is currently only distributed on the install CD that comes with the Radeon X1900 XT G5 Edition.

The version available on the ATI website (v4.5.7) is not a Universal Binary and doesn't recognize the X1900.

Since version 4.5.9 is not public software, I can't link to it. But if your web-detective skills are up to snuff, you should be able to find it.

I haven't tried it yet on my MacBook Pro (X1600) since I don't play any games on it, but I'll try it out in a few days. If it recognizes the X1600 in the MBP, it'll probably also work in the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo iMacs as well.

there is an indirect link in the original post. It's not an installer, just a pref pane and ati utilty. I'm assuming these need to be "filed" manually. I haven't actually tried it 'cause I'm still waiting for my Mac Pro
