Hi all,

I have an MDD that is bone stock, no extra cards or anything in the box (save for RAM). I have the analog audio out connected to a simple Kenwood audio receiver.

For some reason that I cannot discover, I am picking up a radio station that plays in the background whenever the analog plug is connected. All other audio from the Mac works fine, but this radio station feintly plays in the background. During the day the audio gets a little louder, then softens. It's not loud, but man is it annoying as hell. Any ideas what the heck would be causing this?!

I've changed inputs on the receiver many times, but the symptoms still occur. It's like my Powermac is acting like an antenna, picking up spanish radio stations on it's own!

Could be the speaker wire acting as an antenna. If you are picking up one station, there's a good chance this is the case. Maybe adding an extension to the Power Mac-to-speaker cable would help.

Yup, it happened to me with my MDD. I had a set of speakers plugged in, and whenever they were turned on, the speakers played a radio station. Sometimes pretty loudly!

We investigated and found that a radio towers was directly in line with our house. Also, in that house, radio would be heard in the phone lines as well.

I had to give up using the Analog out port as long as we were living in that house.

That was in Boston.

It might help to try to find a speaker cable with more shielding than the one you're using.

Good idea. Try gold threaded cables.

Thanks for the replies. To Ratshack™ I go, gold shielded plugs imminent. Hopefully that'll do the trick, I'll post my findings. Thanks again!

I have picked up some radio on my MDD when I was back in Maryland. Now that I am in NY I don't have any problems, but I was using cheap speakers with probably 40ft of wire (10ft per speaker) that was poorly shielded.
