Howdy...!

This is my first time on the forum, just found you guys....you seem like a central mac user authority, I'll field my question with you in high hopes!

I sure do hope there's an easy fix for this.......!

Here's my problem:

I'm plugging a standard 3.5mm metal audio stereo plug into the "audio out" jack on the back of my first-release 20" imac g5, and for some reason the computer keeps thinking that I've plugged an optical audio plug into the port. So obviously I get no audio signal that my speakers can recognize.......

The device that I'm plugging into the "audio out" port is a Kima Wireless Audio Transmitter, ( Kima Wireless ) which lets me broadcast CD-quality stereo to a receiver anywhere within 1000 feet (these thing rock, seriously! I got mine for about 40 bucks). This thing works fine on my PC, and on my old Mac g3 it worked great too. But this g5 is being ornery.....

is there a way to remedy this from within the software/drivers??? I've located the audio control panel, and it appears to all be an automated process, the computer assumes responsibility for correctly identifying the output plug as either standard audio or optical.....but its failing miserably on this one.

I must say that when I plug in headphones, it gets the job done right and gives me a standard audio signal. So something is working right. But it just can't seem to correctly identify the KIMA as a conventional audio signal device (even though I'm plugging in a standard 3.5mm steel stereo audio plug....)

any thoughts on how to gently nudge my computer back on track???

thanks so much, Mac Punks!

Try adjusting your settings in Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup and see if that changes anything.
