It's been a long time (4 years, to be precise, when I ordered my 12-inch PB about a month after the Expo -- wanted to see one in a store first) since I've been anticipating an expo so much. And that's b/c I'm in the market for a new machine. Still haven't decided b/n a 24-inch imac or a new tower. A lot will depend on next week and whether they increase the top end of the towers so the bottom end is more affordable. I'm still mulling the expandability of a tower, vs. the affordability (and the fact it probably really will meet all my needs, except for my predeliction for keeping my machines a long time) of an imac. Boy, that 24-inch screen seems big though.

I'm using a 6-year-old gigabit ethernet, 400 MZ (upgraded to 933) G4. It's fine for some stuff, but it's pretty quick to bog down if there are a lot of things open, particularly is photo work is involved. On Tuesday, while WAITING, WAITING WAITING for iphoto to do its thing so I could send a photo from a client I almost screamed it took so long. It seems to have begun really bogging down. I'll still be sorry to hand this one off to my kids, in a way. It's been a very good machine.

Still -- can hardly wait until next week! It was hard to wait from a tax standpoint. I could have used the deduction. But it just seemed dumb to buy one so close to possible changes. Only time will tell as to whether that was a good decision or not. It's jan. 4 now, so that decision is over and done with.

As your hard drive fills above 50% it slows down. Beyond 85% full it can really get problematic, even crash the box. Or your apps may be running up against limited RAM.

Well, I have 768 MB of RAM so that's definitely an issue. On the other hand, I didn't really want to put more money into this, knowing that other issues remain. It's been a hard decision; in the long run, the switch to Intel sort of pushed me to the new machine. This machine has been a great one, but it's time to move on...

I'm kind of the same way. I have a 867 G4 Quicksilver and am starting to feel its age now. I've had it since it was released and I want upgrade. I too am debating between the 24" iMac or a tower. I like being able to upgrade the towers but if I go the tower route i'll probably settle for a new 20" screen.
