ok, so i have a G4 800 mhz ibook, and it runs pretty well. but i need something temporary that will let me use 1-2 windows applications for work-related stuff at home. id like to get a mac mini and hook it up to my LCD TV / home theater - but when do you think is a good time to buy?

i want somehting decent to hold me over ( i don't want to spend 1k-1.5k now), buti have plans on getting a macbook / mcp souped up in about 2 years. or do you think a refurbished mac mini core duo would be a better way to go (instead of core 2 duo)

The difference between CD and C2D, especially in the mini, is pretty minimal. I'd go with any refurb dual core, and then max out the RAM to 2G.

edit: On the other hand, the mini should be upgraded in about a month. I'd wait if you're going to buy new, but go ahead if you're going to buy refurb.

No, it's listed at "Mid-cycle" so it'll be a few more months.

If you're iBook is running fine, wait for C2D. If you absolutely need the Mini, get it now.

I agree with mDuell, The differnce in CD and C2D is very small. I just got a CD Mini for Christmas, and it works just as well as I need it too.

I'm not buying until a new model is released - if it's great, I'll buy that one, but if it's just ok, I'll save money and buy the old model.

there is actually a big diffrence in the CD mini and the new upcoming C2D mini

1) CD mini = 32 bit operating system C2D = full 64 bit operating system

2) if they add the new chips then thats 4mb L2 cache vs. 2mb cache

I say you wait it'll be well worth it

1) So? What does that do for you on the desktop? Nada.

2) The low end C2Ds are all 2MB cache. They're not going to stick a $300 chip in the mini.
