My Firewire appears to be dead on my Dual 867 MDD G4. Portable drives don't mount (Hard drive and CD/DVD) Tested the HD on my MBP and it was fine.
Disk utility couldn't see them either. I restarted, repaired permissions... No improvement.
Any tips?

Oh The system profiler shows "Firewire: " That's it... no details.

You might have fried it. That happens when a unit tries to draw too much power from the port.

Try booting into open firmware (Apple-option-'o'-'f'), then type "dump-device-tree" (no " marks).

See if it lists the firewire. If not, you have blown the controller. Does the drive spin up when connected? It is usually the data lines that go on firewire ports.
Since its a PowerMac, you can always get a PCI card.
