Wow, I must be a real noob.

So I had the stock 2x256mb modules in my dualcore g5 2.0ghz and bought two sticks of 1gb RAM, DD2 533mhz, PC2-4200 ECC memory. Now the G5 no longer recognizes the first two sticks. I heard you could mix ECC and non-ECC ram, and all the RAM will default back to non-ECC which I was fine with, but never expected the 512mb to not be recognized at all!!

So what do you have installed? 2x256 and 2x1gb? Are you sure all your slots work?

Yah I think so. I had 2x256mb in the stock configuration and it was working fine, then just installed 2x1gb in the next correct slots, and now the original doesn't show. I'm thinking it's something to do with the new ram being parity?

Well the G5 is rejecting the memory, so I guess i'll try some different RAM instead.
