I accidentally opened the side door while my G4 was running and the screen went black. After that I tried to restart the machine but all I got was the power button to light up shortly... no boot chime.

Any ideas on how to reset it?

Sounds like you may have pinched a cable or somethings loose. Give all the expansion cards & memory a push.

If it still doesn't work, plug the computer in, press the PMU reset button, unplug the computer for 10 seconds then see if it'll power up.

What Seanc said, but first unplug the power for 20 seconds.

Not to hijack your thread but why not try and kill to birds with one stone,

FWIW, I'm currently in the same situation, my Quicksilver won't power up but the PSU is making a buzzing noise when plugged in. The buzzing stops when I press the power button and the light lights up for a few seconds then the buzzing returns. I assume the PSU is dead but i'm not entirely sure.

Did you try removing the graphics card or RAM?

So you just re-seated your CPU card? Perhaps I should re-seat the one in my Quicksilver.

Yeah I actually had this problem before but I used an older cpu to find out the problem (even longer story) If you still have issues you could try switching out the cpu card with a different cpu if you have one.
