A few months back I installed a PCI card in my G4 to give me some USB2 slots and additional Firewire 400 slots (the card was from CompUSA 4 USB and 2 firewire). At first all seemed fine but then it appeared the card would 'go to sleep' if the computer went to sleep and could only be "wakened" by rebooting. Then later I stated to encounter problems downloading files from a compact flash card reader - it would hang forever but would read ok on the USB1 or the USB2 on my powerbook. I recently purchased an external hard drive with 3 interfaces (USB2, firewire 400 and 800) looking ahead to when I can get the latest Macs with these interfaces. At first the it seemed to run ok but then file transfers would also hang. Now the USB ports don't seem to work at all. The light comes on on the CF card read reader but the image doesn't appear on the desktop. I'm running OS10.3.9. Any suggestions beyond getting a new card - or a recommendation for a reliable card?

sleep/wake/reboot issues are indicitive of corrupted/sloppily-coded firmware on the card
.
Suggest getting a Belkin, SIIG or other name-brand card for better quality

I had some issues using generic USB cards in my Sawtooth. It seems to be a hit or miss issue as I've tried the same cards in other G4s and they work fine. In my particular case, I had to get one with an NEC chipset instead of a Via chipset for it to work right.
