iMac G5 crashes with fans on

I have a 20" iMac G5 running 10.4.8 and 1.5GB RAM. I usually leave my computer on all the time. In the last couple of weeks I've come home from work to find my Mac basically frozen with the fans going full blast. The screen is off, nothing responds and the only thing I can do is shut the power off. Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

Check the logs. Open the program "Console" (it's in Applications/Utilities, I think) and read the logfiles to see if you can get a hint on what is causing the crash.
