hi, my imac g5 with the latest osx.4 and toast 8 won't burn dvd's faster than 2x speed.
why is that? when i try to manually set the speed to 16x, the highest option i get is 2x

what can i do?

system : G5 20" 2.1gHz 1.5gb ram

i restarted, but also diskutility is slow, it takes 30 minutes to burn 2 gb dvd..this imac has a 16x speed duallayer inside it

smart the label says 8 speed dvd-r. I haven't got any other brands. But cdr's burn as fast as they should.

i tried an external firewire burner that burns with 8 speed, same brand dvd-r's so its not the media, it's the imac

I'm guessing you mean "8x speed." And yes, it still could be the media. If this is the only brand you've tried, it's possible that your internal writer doesn't like it (what brand is it?). It happens. Before absolutely worrying about the drive, try a different brand.
