For example, can I make my eMac play audio through my headphones and my USB headset at the same time? Sometimes I'd like to listen to things with a friend without everyone else hearing.

Not to the best of my knowledge. Some applications let you choose where to output to so technically if you were to play a song in itunes that outputs to the system default and another song in VLC that is set to output somewhere else it could work.

You're not getting the auto-shrunk version with the 'click here for original' link?

Nope. But then again, I'm running iCab with all scripting turned off.

Oh. And a headphone splitter wouldn't work if it's a USB headset. OP, if you've got 10.4, do a search for "device aggregator", that should allow you to make all audio interfaces connected usable at the same time.

*sigh*

And people who prefer emacs or vi instead of MS Office should also get modern computers, I suppose?

Actually, this doesn't work. You can create an aggregate device in Audio Midi Setup that combines two devices, however this only makes a difference if you are using a multichannel source. You'll still only be able to use one or the other with a stereo signal.

I know of no way to do what the OP wants. A program called Detour (which doesn not seems to be actively developed anymore), said that eventually it should be able to route audio from a single application to multiple devices, however it does not do this yet.

Apparently you have no clue. I use emacs daily and I only use that to edit text / scripts that pertain to server issues. If anything those people like myself should use text edit. Your comparing apples to oranges

That's for recording audio, not passing it to multiple devices.

Well, you're correct, I don't know what vi and emacs are usually used for, but I do know that people use Office for things they could find more efficient ways for (ie. pasting images into word documents and mailing when they could just have mailed the jpeg). Congratulations, you win. And in a sudden dearth of logic, does that mean that I now have give up my browser of choice, simply because I thought the image you posted was obscenely large?

I would be...lol. Why dont you just use Netscape or Mozilla based browser since the theme of that browser is so close to those.
