Intel Corporation researchers have developed the world’s first programmable processor that delivers supercomputer-like performance from a single, 80-core chip not much larger than the size of a finger nail while using less electricity than most of today’s home appliances.
big picture:

Frequency Voltage Power Aggregate Bandwidth Performance
3.16 GHz 0.95 V 62W 1.62 Terabits/s 1.01 Teraflops
5.1 GHz 1.2 V 175W 2.61 Terabits/s 1.63 Teraflops
5.7 GHz 1.35 V 265W 2.92 Terabits/s 1.81 Teraflops

You wouldn't want this chip in an iMac. It has no integer units, so it wouldn't be able to run an OS, much less perform decently on the desktop.
Plus the software on your iMac isn't really designed for 80 cores; it might scale to 8 cores, but not ten times that.

Uhh, just curious... did you bother reading the article? Intel is not producing this chip for production.

that would be nice. I saw a article in the newspaper that showed that Hafnium could be the next Silicon. More than 3GHz!
Signature depreciated.

They are producing this chip for research purposes = maybe only for Intel Research. This chip is actually in limited production. ?All the people at Intel are using 80 core chips why everyone else turtles along with their 1-2-4 core chips???!!!

Those fools with spending $$$$ on 4-core chips and thinking they are fast! -Makes you wonder how many went Quad-Core just to run Windows Vista?

Badsey,
Sarcasm doesn't come across very well in e-mails or form posts. Still, I thought this post was kinda of funny.
