My Dads iMac G4 was suddenly switched off when the trip switch went in the house.

It boots up ok - you hear the chimes and the grey apple appears with the cog wheel. Then it goes to the blue screen with the white box that says starting mac osx. The blue progress bar gets to the end but then nothing else happens?

We have tried resetting the pmu but that has not done anything and starting in safe mode did not progress further than the grey cog wheel screen. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we use the computer to video iChat.

Unfortunately I live in the UK and my Dad is in the Canary Islands so it's quite hard to assist over the phone!

Tried a re-boot of the OS? Hardware test from your disk? I normally boot in target disc mode, then clone, re-boot and cycle through what I want to keep? (You'll need a firewire lead and spare mac for that though?)

Sorry I've just realised I'm not very helpful with this kind of thing, have a play I guess, the good news is your logic board doesn't sound like it's fried?!!?
