Hi folks,
I have a macpro with 2 Ghz dual core processors, OS 10.48, and the NVIDA Geoforce 7300GT with identical two DVI 20 inch monitors. Initially they both worked fine. Then they got a little quirky and one would disappear from time to time. Now the mac does not acknowledge that the second monitor is plugged in. The monitors work fine on other macs. Still under warranty, but past the 90 day free tech support, so apple wants to charge me to ask this question. Any help would be appreciated. Sounds like an apple glitch to me. Thanks.
Bill

Sounds like maybe the video card is messed up. I would send it in to Apple to have them repair it (it's free).

thanks for the reply, my catch 22 is that since tech support is no longer free apple will charge me to tell me if they think it is broken, then they may fix it for free if they acknowledge a problem. Or they may charge me and say it is not... I thought I read some where that there was an issue with that video board and dual monitors on a macpro, but I could not find the info again when I looked. People seemed to be talking about screen dumps and a bunch of techie things to change to get two monitors to work???? Oddly I have run into other issues with other macs like the 400GB SATA Western Digital Drives having issues with G5s..... lucky for me I bought one of them for my G5, so I have that problem as well, but the companies seem to just blame each other for the glitch leaving the user stuck. The macpro is driving me nuts so I will probably just bring it in to the local apple store and make some noise.

The 90 days is only for phone support. You have a 1 year warranty on your hardware
Does the second monitor come on at all? Have you tried re-seating the graphics card (taking it out and putting it back in again)?
If you can't get it to work take it to an Apple store and see what they say.

thanks sean I will try reseating the video card. I understand that I have a one year warranty, but the game apple seems to be playing is that they will charge me to troubleshoot and confirm that it is hardware since the free phone support is over.

They should never charge you for phone support if it's under warranty.

thats the catch, the phone support is for 90 days, the warranty is for a year.

If the problem persists, swap the ports the monitors are plugged into. That way you can find out if the MacPro doesn't like a particular monitor, or (more likely) that a particular port is dead. The 2nd case would pretty well prove that it's the video card.
