Hello dear members,
I have a G4 cube which has USB 1.1 ports. Would you know by any chance if I could get USB2.0 through some hub or external devices please?
My new iPod can't work on firewire...
I saw a product from macally, but I don't seem to understand what is it:

Combination USB 2.0 / FireWire Hub. New with 3y... (HUB-UF) at OWC

Thank you for your advice.

Afraid there's no USB 2.0 for the cube. You can connect that device to your cube, but you will only get USB 1 speeds out of it. Additionally, some USB devices may refuse to work with it. I'd check for the possible existence of a USB to firewire adapter for your ipod.

Thank you. I will look for a USB-FW adapter for the iPod.

No such thing exists.

I did extensive research to try and find a solution for my G3 iBook (with USB 1.1). The physical technology used for firewire vs USB is different. It would be like trying to install Panther on machine with Intel architecture.

Unless someone comes out with some kind of upgrade board to solder onto the logic board of a G4 cube or anything else with USB 1.1, you're SOL. ...It's also one of the reasons I'm not interested in a new iPod. No firewire access is pretty useless to me - I'm not sure why Apple dropped it, considering all the accolades they've given firewire over the years...
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

I'm sorry to finally hear that no such converters exists. Finally, I would have no other choice than sell the Cube eventually. Too sad as I put a dual 1.3 G4 in it, in place of the 450mhz. I also replaced the HD with a 300 GB capacity! It is a rare machine with the OEM RAdeon 32mb. Apart from lacking a CD writer, USB 1.1 is the only thing really annoying.

Cost and performance. The FW chipsets cost a lot more than USB (just look at external enclosure prices) and the benchmarks I saw for the final two FW+USB iPod models showed USB2 being much faster (3x in some cases). Of course that isn't good for people who only have USB1, but there aren't many people with $400 computers buying $300 music players.
