Hey Guys - Just FYI - While none of the upgrade sites say that it does or does not work with the Mac Mini, I bought the Apple 802.11n Upgrade Kit and disassembled the Mini and installed the card. Booted the Mini back up and it works perfectly. It's speeds are in line with what you should expect from "n" networking.

Also upgraded my first generation MacBook (Core Duo) to the 802.11n card and it works great. Went to Fry's Electronics and bought a Core2Duo chip for the Mini but bought the wrong chipset, will have to do it another time. The Core2Duo 2.33 Ghz was $200 even. Bought the 802.11n from Vistek as when I originally bought them I could not find a US retailer that actually had them in stock. They sold out moments after I bought them. I guess people were really jumping on them.

Did you install a second antenna? Are you having any problems? I am having my 802.11n card drop out under heavy use. Once it drops out the only way to view the wireless networks is to do a full restart. I am trying to pinpoint the cause. The work was done by an authorized apple service center. Any ideas? Thanks.

1. Is heat an issue? Internal heat killing airport card?
2. Need second antenna?
3. Software.

You should use a second antenna. These guys did it right: Hardmac.com: How to add WiFi 802.11n to a Mac mini Core Duo

Mine happens to be relatively close enough to the base station that I am not experiencing any of the issues you describe. It's just as fast as the MacBook in trasferring data files. I get roughly 2.5 - 3.0 MB/sec on both when transferring to a hard drive connected to the Airport Extreme.

It seems to be happening when I am downloading multiple files at the same time. I am going to boot into XP to see if the problem occurs there as well. I am getting sick of restarting.

I am going from full bars, and seeing 6 networks, to 0 bars and no networks found.
