I have a Core Duo 2.0 iMac/400GB/2GB here at work that's randomly kernel panicing. It's happened a few times right in the middle of nothing specific, and it will often happen right after rebooting while trying to log in. I ran Techtool and the Apple Hardware Test and neither found anything wrong. I repaired permissions and verified the startup volume, and both were fine. Here's the text from two separate panics:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x0035BEAC): freeing free mbuf

Any suggestions short of reinstalling OS X? I installed a fresh copy last June so it's not that old.

Both the extended Apple Hardware Test and Techtool tested the RAM and said it was good. I might be able to run Rember or Memtest tomorrow and see if either of those find a problem.

Well, it doesn't hurt to remove any third-party RAM from the machine, to check it out.

It looks like an internal network hardware issue.

Another two kernel panics today, one cause me to lose part of my lab report. I'm getting ticked off.

Do you have that POS Logitech driver installed for that Logitech keyboard? I had it installed on a 24"CD2 imac and got frequent KPs. I switched to USBOverdrive and all is well.

I do...maybe I'll give USBO a shot and see if they quit. It's so weird though, as I hadn't had any problems for a good three weeks then suddenly I get two today.

Ya. There's a couple different versions of the logitech driver out there. Have you tried this one? This one was recommended to me at the same time someone else reminded me of USBOverdrive (which I jumped on since I used to use it back in the OS9 days).

http://www.logitech.com/pub/techsupp...mac/lcc211.dmg

After the KPs I had, I didn't even feel like trying another logitech driver. The USBOverdrive has worked well for me.

That "no problems until very recently" is weird though. When I installed that driver, I had problems within days.

Okay, I uninstalled the driver and added USBO. The iTunes buttons and volume control on my keyboard no longer work anymore, but I guess I can live with that. I suppose I'll just wait a few weeks and see if I get anymore KPs. Until then I'll just have to save often.
