Hello,
This is my first post although I have been "loitering" for awhile. This may be lengthly but I would like to include all the information.
I was at the desk and using my,new to me by a month< MDD dual 1 gig with 1.2 gig ram, 2 ide drives a SATA card with 2 SATA drives and a new superdrive. It is/was running 10.4.9 and had XResource graph running( for temp notification). All was fine then with no fanfare it just shut down. i waited a minute or so and tried to restart. It started up and was at the desktop a logged in and seemed fine for about 45 seconds then shut down. I tried a restart and all I got was a button light that went out as soon as I removed my finger from the button. It didnt even try to start, no fans,HDD,video, nothing just silence.
I opened it up and smelled the "burnt electronics" odor so I just left it open and unplugged for the night.
The next day I removed the heatsink and processor. Inspected them amd found no evidence of "barbeque". There were no obvious burn/singe marks or "black' spots on either side of the processor card and nothing of the sort under the card mount on the logic board. I looked over the entire logic board and could find no evidence of any damage. Next I removed the power supply and opened it up, again no obvious evidence of any damage whatsoever. Before closing it up I replaced the fans in the ps just to be on the safe side. Closed up the power supply and fre-installed it. I replaced the large case fan, again just to be safe. Cleaned all the air intakes on the front and bottom of the case. After all this I tried again to "fire it up". Nothing same as before just the power button light and that went out when I removed my finger.
OK, I figured to try the simple stuff. Removed the battery and let it sit for a day and a half. Tested and reinstalled the battery then went on the the "cuda/CMu switch.
I folled the proceedure as laid out on the Apple support site, pressed it once waited 10 or so seconds and tried to start it up. Got the same as last try, nothing.
I dont really want to spend a ton replacing parts randomly and cant really find any information that states "when this happens its because of" and "replace this". So Iam asking for help, theories, been there did this, anything actually. These are bring $300+ on ebay NOT working. Would I be better off just selling it on the bat and looking for something else? I really was just getting into this dual, it was a few steps up from my DA.
Again I apologize for the "long winded" post but wanted to get as much info out there as I could in hopes of finding some help

Thanks,

A J
