I just got my 24" imac last night and while I was transferring my apps i noticed the screen had little pieces of static. I restarted the computer and it went away but came back within 30minutes. The "static" isn't very noticeable but is annoying for a new computer. Anyone else have a problem like this?

Thanks,
Mike

By static, I assume you mean something along the lines of little white spots flickering around the screen?
This does not sound normal. I would call Applecare and have a word. They will no doubt ask you to perform a few procedures to diagnose the fault. If you have had it only a day or two, you should be able to get it picked up and replaced, unless its a refurb which they will onlly repair.
If you want to speed up the diagnostics before you call, try the following:

Reseat RAM - Unplu power and remove your RAM modules and put them back in. Make sure they are seated firmly in their slots, handle them only by their edges. Touch something earthed like a radiator before touching them at all, and don't walk about between earthing your self and touching them. You ought to do this one first.

Reset PRAM - boot the machine and hold down Apple-Alt-P-R. It will continue to chime until you release these keys. You want to hold them for four or five chimes. This will reset your date, so don't worry when it does.

Reset the SMC - dead easy this one: Shut down and unplug everything especially power. Wait 15 seconds then plug back in. DON'T press the power button as you are plugging it in. Press it afterwards.

Boot from DVD - Easiest of all: Pop in your OS DVD and start while holding the C key until you get the grey Apple. You should hear the optical drive working overtime, and it will take longer to boot than usual.

Check for the static after each of the above procedures. If it persists, you can run the Apple hardware test just in case. This is the same as booting from DVD, except you hold the D key instead. Run a few loops and if you get any error codes, make a note of them when for when you talk to Applecare.

Personally I suspect this is down to either the LCD, its data cable or the logic board. My chief suspect would be the cable. They are very susceptible to interference. Any of these is grounds for a replacement, since it constitutes a hardware failure.
While they insist on going through these procedures, they are usually happy to accept it if you tell them you have done a test already.
