I have been having a lot of problems with my imac g5 lately. I have decided to wipe my hard drive and do a fresh install of the operating system. Is it possible to do this using the software dvd that ships with the intel macbook? Thanks in advance.

I can't say 100%, but probably not. You need either the disks that came with the machine or the retail 10.4 disks, assuming your iMac came installed with 10.3. If it came with 10.4, the retail 10.4 will probably be too old to boot your iMac.

My computer came with 10.4 pre installed. It also came with both the 10.3.5 and 10.4 install discs. Are you saying even the 10.4 dvd will not work for a fresh install?

To give you a little insight as to why I am thinking of going this route; the computer has been freezing whenever I open any programs besides firefox and mail. It has even been freezing sometimes when I am simply browsing the finder. The only thing I can think of that I did differently around the time this started happening, is download and install the trial version of Warcraft. I have since gone through and deleted anything having to do with the game.

The HD was around at around 135gb out of the full 160 before I installed the game. I have since gone through and deleted a lot of music and videos to get it down to about 125gb now. I have already run the disk repair utility and all the daily weekly monthly programs, I can't think of what else to do.

Any othyer advise or requests for more info would be greatly appreciated.

The MacBook DVD won't work most likely unless you use a third party application. It is considered piracy to use it to install Tiger on your iMac even if you own the MacBook. The other problem is that it most likely won't be universal so your iMac could become a useless piece of plastic with a little aluminum on the side.
