If you want a Mac for specific reasons but also need a gaming rig, you may want to consider the combination of a Mini and a Windows based gaming rig sharing a monitor, keyboard and mouse via a KVM. Many have run it this way and can be significantly cheaper than a 24" iMac and ultimately more versatile. It's certainly not the only option, but it's definitely worth looking at IMO.

Wow. You *really* can't spell.

If you need a high-end gaming rig, don't buy a Mac, period. Build your own with the best parts you can afford. That way, you'll have a multitude of options for processors, video cards, and RAM, as well as the physical space for additional hard drives (not to mention that some high-end video cards are really gianormous).

Go buy a 24" or 30" LCD if you want that much screen real estate. It's not like the iMac is the only computer on the market with a big display.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

I think the iMac would be fine.

But you're limited in expandability.
