I was looking into purchasing a mac pro and currently have a 250gig ATA harddrive I would like to move to a mac. Does the mac pro support ATA not just SATA?

There are ways to do it I think, but PATA isn't supported out of the box.

You can buy a USB2 or Firewire external enclosure for your existing HD for under $30. Or just buy a SATAII 250GB for well under $100.

On the tech specs it says Serial ATA. Isn't that what SATA means????
Could someone please clarify this? I'm planning to buy a second hard drive as well. So I'm really interested in knowing what kind of hard drive I need to buy.

Yes, you need to buy a SATA (Serial ATA) or SATA II HD for the Mac Pro.

The guy above was asking if he could install a parallel ATA HD.

PATA is available in the optical drive bays. You could probably put the HD in the second drive bay, if you have to, though I've never tried it.

Yea, you can grab a pair of 5.25"->3.5" wings and put your ATA hard drive in the second optical bay. The hard drive slots in the Mac Pro are for SATA only.
