Well, since they just announced the Mac Pro "revision," I figure it's safe to purchase mine now without fear of missing out on some future option (no chance they'll improve the video options at NAB?).
So, I do 3D modeling, texturing, and rendering. Here's what I was thinking of getting:
Mac Pro
2.66ghz dual-core x2
4gb RAM (I'm guessing more RAM is a better choice than the faster processors? And it seems that Apple has better prices on their RAM now)
250gb HD (I'll buy more hard-drives as I need them - Apple's prices seem expensive)
ATI 1900XT video (this is the main part I was waiting on an upgrade for - oh well)
Any advice before I drop my own cash down for this thing? Good? Bad?
Thanks!

Add bluetooth+Airport since it's easier to do now then later. As for RAM, get RAM from Other World Computing $580 for 2x2GB RAM (which would give you a total of 5GB of RAM). That's who I'm getting my RAM from when I order my system tomorrow.

I was about to say the same thing get your ram from another vendor. I made the mistake of buying my ram from apple and could have saved a couple hundred bucks. You could still wait for Leopard, but it may be 3 or 4 more months.

I'd suggest saving your pennies if you can't afford it now and getting Quadra 4500 if you really do a lot of 3D modeling, texturing and the such. It would make a big difference!

Thanks for the advice everyone! A few quick questions though... I was going to get the bluetooth module, and I understand that the chip/antenna are both inside the case (is this true?) - also, if I get the Airport Extreme upgrade, is that also inside the case only? (no external antenna or dongle?) And if so, how good is the range?

Yes, both antennae are within the case. As for range, they seem fine for me. I get full signal strength on a G router through 3 walls and about 50 feet of space.
It's not a MIMO router either.
The Quadro might be a good idea, if you need (or could really use) the features it offers. I'd read up on it before sinking $1500 into it.
