Hey guys,

Need a little help here. Someone wants to buy my Dual 2.7 for 2900.00$ CAN and I can get a new Mac Pro 2.66 dual core for 2800.00$ CAN.

Should I upgrade for only 7% increased performance? Keep in mind that at the end the new one will cost much more since I will have to get RAM for it and even an extra HD...

What would you do?

I don't think you realize what you're buying, if you did, you wouldn't be asking this question. There would be more than a 7% performance increase.

Your going from a 2 x 1 core G5 2.7Ghz
to a 2 x 2 core Xeon 2.66Ghz

A Quad core Xeon 2.66Ghz Mac Pro is 1.4 to 2 times as fast as a Quad G5 2.5Ghz depending on the apps your running so your upgrade would be even more significant.

Man did you find sucker or what. $2900 for a dual 2.7?

You must be mainly looking at the Mhz thing cause even between a Dual 2.7 and a Quad 2.5 G5 (which is 2 more chips!) in real world test there are only a few seconds difference in most applications...

Yes, that just goes to prove my point. If you ignore the Adobe scores (since Adobe is not Intel native when that test was done) and the iMovie and iTunes scores which don't show off the speed (probably not threaded enough). If you look at the UT2004 scores and Cinema 4D scores you see what I mean.

Take and read this and remember that Adobe has just gone Intel Native Macworld: Review: Mac Pro completes Apple's Intel lineup

If you pass this up, you're passing up on the deal of the century.

Your lucky to get $2100 CDN for a Dual 2.7 G5.

How loaded is the Dual 2.7GHZ G5 your selling? That can determine the price. So $2.900 with 4-8GB RAM X800 256MB, eSATA card may not be so far fetched.

4 gigs of RAM, 2x250 gig HD and for some people a G5 is what they need cause some music software is still not available in Universal Bin.
