Configuring a MacPro...
I will be ordering 2gb set of ram from OWC. Now here is were I get fuzzy... can I just add the two 1gb modules to the stock (two) 512 modules so I have a total of 3gb, or do I have to have matching size modules? In other words, do I have to remove the two 512 modules for the 1gb's to work? I know you need to install matched pairs but does that mean of equal size?
Thanks for any help.

You'll be fine with 2 modules of each size but from what I understand you won't be running in a 256-bit wide bus unless you install 4 at a time of equal size.

Yes it will work fine. Put the 1GB and 512MB modules on different cards (on the slots closest to the logic board on each card) to maximize memory bandwidth (4 modules = 256-bit memory bus).

Hi maybe My question can be answered here too as well. I plan on ordering 4GB or RAM from OWC also. Can I add those 4, 1GB modules to the stock 1GB, 512 modules for a total of 5Gb RAM or should I replace the 1GB altogether? Thank you.

heiesuke_oda: Put the 4x1GB in the two slots closest to the logic board on each card. Put the 2x512MB on either card, but both on the same card.
