Hey guys,

I have an old blueberry G3 tower that I think I'm going to turn into a music server. I would like to hook the G3 up to my receiever, install remote desktop on the mac, and then I could wirelessly control my music from my laptop My question is, what sound card would you recommend to get the job done? I just want to output to my receiver, preferably optical coax. Can I buy any sound card from newegg or does it have to support macs?

Edit: I also have a digidesign M-Box, that has optical coax out on it. Could I hook that up via usb and use that?

Wouldn't it be cheaper if you get an AirPort Express base station? If you want, you can still store the music on your G3 and share the library via iTunes …
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

If you get a soundcard, it has to be a Mac compatible soundcard. M-audio has the Revolution 5.1 and 7.1 PCI cards. There are also USB options and the Griffin Firewave.

You can hook up the audio out (headphone) port to a stereo receiver using a stereo mini-plug to RCA jack adapter from radio shack. It's quick and fast.

An Airport Express would be the other way to go.
