Hi, I have a 24" imac. I have connected a 19" monitor to the imac using mini dvi but am having a few problems.

Ideally I would like to mirror the imac to the external additional LCD.

I want to set the additional monitor to res 1440x900 and the imac to it's max at 1920x1200

I can set the additional monitor to 1440x900 but the imac jumps down to 1600x1000. If I set the imac to 1920x1200 the additinal monitor goes off and shows Not Optimum Mode - obviously too high. I am aware that it is probably a problem due to mirror as they work seperately not on mirror.

How can I set them to mirror with the res detailed above. I have looked at SwitchResX but it is so confusing I un-installed it.

Any ideas?

Mirror does what it says: it mirrors the resolution and image of the internal display. You can't have a different resolution on the external monitor as on the internal display without using extended desktop instead of mirroring. What you want isn't possible (and doesn't make much sense; why do this?).
