A number of users on the "Digidesign User Conference" are noting a problem with their Mac Pro's not consistantly booting (Myself included). We're seeing our macs FAIL to boot about 20% to 30% of the time we launch (or restart). Some are attributing it to the Digidesign PCI-E cards, perhaps tapping the PCI-E bus and causing the boot failure. Others note the massive power draw when booting their Macs. At one point, I (and another on this thread) had their machine boot WHEN THE POWER CABLE WAS PLUGGED IN. Anyone here having boot issues with their Mac Pros? for more details on symptoms here's a link to the thread:

Wow.. I think I might have these problems. ~40% of the time I reboot (which is rarely), my Mac Pro will either hang completely during the beginning at grey screen, or hang at the end, at blue screen, right before login. At first I attributed it to having my iPod plugged in (which shouldn't happen anyways), but then realized that it was only coincidence that when I took it out a couple times my baby succeeded in restarting.

I don't have any digidesign cards though- Just the stock X1900, and 6GB of RAM added. I've been meaning to wipe my HD and reinstall everything (vestiges from windows past) thinking it was some rogue program or something (VMware?), but I'm in the middle of several big projects and have to wait. When I get my copy of CS3, I'm going to do a wipe and reinstall.

Good to know it's happening to people without additional cards installed. This needs to be sent up to Apple.

Anyone else?

There was a response on the DUC thread sighting a Digidesign (and ex Apple) rep that said "I just spoke to my Digi Rep in Florida (who used to work for Apple), and he told me that this issue is related to Apple's power supply, and that they get 15-20% returned computers regarding this".

Just to confirm, you have no additional PCI cards installed on your system?
Have you heard of anyone else experiencing this problem?
Digidesign is pursuing the issue aggresively and I'd like to let them know if it's happening to users without extra cards.

Thanks

Tim
