Hi,

I'm having problems getting my eMac to recognise my Sony Handycam HDR HC1E. I'm connecting it via an ilink 4 pin to 6 pin cable and trying to capture it into Final Cut Pro HD. I wonder if the video card/Firewire port needs to be upgraded to accept HD as I was previously capturing Mini DV from a Sony DCR-TRV25E with no problem.

Can anyone advise??

Thanks

Try turning your i.LINK CONV off in the STANDARD SET menu on your sony touch screen. This should work if not let me know there might be a couple more settings you can change. You could probably operate the camera from the computer but the import screen stayed blue?dK.

Thanks for your response. The ilink conversion is off. I have VCR set to HDV. Component set to 1080i/576i.

In Final Cut Pro HD I've tried connecting the camera as various settings but the computer still won't recognise it's there.

Have you got any other suggestions?

Since I had to wipe and re-install my hard drive at the beginning of the year imovie has disappeared (as has iphoto) so I can't test out the camera on it. The mac I'm using is an eMac 800MHz PowerPC G4.

If you're using Final Cut Pro HD - that is version 4.5 - you're out of luck, because it's not compatible with HDV. You'll need FCP v5.0 or above.

The system specs for iMovie HD read as follows:

Your machine does not support HD editing in iMovie. I would assume that the same applies for Final Cut should you be using that.
