I'm wondering...Would the speed difference between a fully loaded Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz with 2GB of Ram outfitted with 128mb Ram and a 5400rpm 100gb drive compared to a 24inch iMac with 3Gb of ram upgraded to a 2.33 C2D processor 500GB HD and the upgraded video card.

Would it be anything like the MacBook C2D 2.0Ghz-maxed out? I've found this to be zippy compared to the powerbook, but not as blazing fast as I thought it might be. Anyone have some experience on these machines? I'm looking into putting a iMac into my office for light video editing, Graphics work in Adobe's product suite.

I have a powerbook 1.33 ghz G4 and a 24 inch iMac. The iMac stomps the crap out of my powerbook easily. The powerbook has 1.25 gb ram and the iMac has 2gb ram. Not sure but I believe the macbook uses shared graphics memory which slows it down some.

The iMac will be faster in all respects (disk, video, processor especially), and by a large margin on processor and disk-related tasks. The MacBook will be faster than the PowerBook processor-wise, but for disk-intensive operations it'll be about the same, and graphics won't be any better. 3D graphics will be much slower. As for iMac vs. MacBook, processor-wise, the difference isn't big, but the iMac has a substantially faster disk, which may make a big difference when it comes to video-editing and the like. Depending on the app, the graphics card will also help.

What will make a big difference for the MacBook and iMac is native apps: Adobe CS3 is vastly faster than CS2 on Intel Macs.

Hey Guys, thanks for the helpful information. The only hold up now is what lays around the corner for the iMac. Me thinks, I will be upgrading shortly.
