I was on the internet doing some intensive google Pedometer mapping the other night when the Firefox browser & everything locked up & I had to power the computer down. When I power it up now it begins like it used to with the normal screens & Mac OS X starting up but then it goes to a black screen which Says Darwin/BSD & a prompt for me to Login: I can login & logout but it doesn't get me anywhere & that's about all I know how to do. Do I have a major problem here? Any ideas?

Does it still boot into single user mode when you reboot? Type exit and it should boot up normally.

When it says welcome to Darwin type fsck -yf. Do it more than once until it says the drive is OK, and then type exit. If you still have that problem afterward, the next step is to do an Archive and Install using the OS disc.

actualy, you can corrupt your drive so win95/98 boots into a DOS prompt.
