My wife's birthday is coming up and she has been wanting an imac for a while so I'd this would be the perfect time to get her one but have a couple of questions about it.

Can the 3.5"hdd on the intel imacs be upgraded like the g5 imacs? I looked it up on apples site but I only found instructions on upgrading the g5 hdd's yourself. Is the intel imac also DIY. I dont mind opening up the imac to upgrade it but I dont want to take the entire thing apart. Thanks in advance

The non-iSight G5 iMacs are the only (current design) iMac where you can upgrade the hard drive yourself and keep your warranty intact.

For the iSight G5 models and all Intel models, it's not too hard, but it does void your warranty. ifixit.com has a guide to walk you through the process.

The HDD's in the iMac are fairly sizable. What are you doing with it - lots of video?

You could always buy an external HDD for more space. If you really need tons of storage, the Mac Pro may be the way to go.

iMacs are really plug and play.

You plug it in
And play with it.

It's a tinkerers worst nightmare - a sealed unit. I have a 20" inch one, best computer I ever bought, and I have a degree in computing!
