I have a refurb 2ghz macpro. Had it for 2 days. Left it on last night. Went to do some stuff this afternoon and it was slugish then died. Used disk utility (from the cd), did a verify disk and recieved an error about bad key. Had to reformat (which took forever for the disk to be recognized) and now in the process of reinstalling. Any issues I need to be aware of as far as bad disks or controllers? thanks

Sounds like the drive could be on the way out. Contact Apple and they should help you out.

This is really wierd. I have the install disc in. Goto disk utilities. This takes awhile. Also took awhile to find the disk. Reformat it with another name. Goto install. Its dragging along real slow. Finally it starts copying files, it tells me 16 hours to complete. Something is wrong. I kept hearing the controler trying to activate the disk. Finally I call apple, after an hour on the phone, they decide to send me another disk thinking the disk died. I go out to dinner and think about this. I come home, open her up, remove the hard drive and put it back in, do the same to the ram, fired it back up and installs without a hitch. Not sure if I should call apple and cancel the replacement or not. I thought the controller or hard drive was going out but one thing seems wierd too. It was hot from running boinc. When I came back last night from dinner, it was cold. Not sure if this may have caused it or not. Suggestions?

Well, it died a couple hours later. Was running fine for awhile, then crash. Have to wait 7 to 10 days for the hard drive to come in from apple. I did try one more clean install which worked, ran hardware test, verified disk and disk permission which came up clean, only to die doing updates. Boy this sucks.
