I have recently decided to purchase a new iMac. My dilemma is should buy now, with the Tiger Os X, or wait for Leopard which release date has been pushed back to October?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

personally, if i had a computer that was working fine already, then i would wait. who knows what upgrades the apple line will have by the time or when Leopard comes out. I mean what's the rush if you have something that's working now... I like my Mac so i would get another if i could, but if you don't NEED it, why not wait?

The iMac design hasn't been updated in about three years, so I think it's worth waiting not just for Leopard, but also for a potentially sleeker machine overall. If you absolutely need to update your gear, it's a great machine. I have a 17" Intel Core Duo with 1 GB RAM and I absolutely love it. It's beautiful to look at and a dream to use. And like most folks, even though I want Leopard, I don't need it. Tiger still kicks ass, so I'd say the wait might really be worth it.

Yep - Shiny and others are right - if you need it now, the current models are great. Chances are in 3 months they will be better though. Having said that, six months from then they will be better still... Wait if you can on this one.

With Apple, there's always something new and better around the corner. You might as well get what you need when you need it.

If you wait there's a good chance after WWDC Apple will have something like free upgrade to Leopard.

Doubtful. Apple's a business. They don't give major updates away for free. Besides, Leopard won't be available until October.

Generally, machines bought the last six weeks or so before an update will qualify for a $20-for-shipping-and-handling upgrade.

I expect Apple will announce a firm release date for Leopard at the MacWorld Expo in Paris in early September, and all machines bought from then on will qualify for that upgrade.

If you don't want to wait that long, all paid OS X upgrades over the past few years have been $130 - not *that* much, plus you can wait a couple of months and wait for any issues with the upgrade to get ironed out if you've still got a working version of Tiger on your machine.
