I've got a rev A 2Ghz G5 that I used to use a lot at home but now I use an MBP for most things. However I store all my music, manage photos in Lightroom constantly and do occasional web work on its 24" display. It also handles backups for itself and 3 machines. I've got 2x400gb internal and 2x300gb firewire for backups.
It had lockup issues long ago and now it's refusing to boot completely without freezing. It's out of Applecare and I'm guessing either needs 1 processor or a logic board which look to be around $500-$700. I don't need a display and have tons of storage, would I be better off buying more enclosures and using an iMac or buying a Mac Pro. Or has anyone had any luck getting Apple to fix issues on an out of warranty mac that were "fixed" when it had coverage?
