Hi Guys,

I just bought a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver 2002 (800Mhz, 512Mb, 330Gb, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth, Internal modem) to use as a storage server for my home network.

It has an internal modem, so I thought I could use it as a fax, but I can't figure how to do it. When I go in System Preferences > Print & Fax > Faxing > Set Up Fax Modem, my modem is not listed. If I go About this Mac > More Info > Network > Modems, my modem is listed.

Would it be possible that it's a modem only and not a fax/modem?

Any idea anyone? Thanks !

Hi and welcome! Your modem is a fax/modem so it should be ready to roll. The Set Up Fax Modem merely lists the outgoing/incoming fax jobs. If you go to any program and choose Print, you should see the PDF button, click it, select Fax PDF. In the next window enter the recipient's fax number. Your modem should be listed simply as "Internal Modem".

Does the modem show up in the System Profiler (Apple menu --> About this Mac... --> More info...)?

It's possible the modem is defective or the modem card has become unseated from the logic board.

If it doesn't show in the Profiler, open up the Mac and try un-seating/re-seating the modem card.

Thanks guys. I did print "Fax PDF" and my modem appeared as an Internal Modem.
