#1- When i start up the G5 imac , there is a flash message. It said from what I could catch : you are running on APC. Any ideas why this happens ? #2- What are the numbers to right of the airport icon ? I see numbers and one of them is blinking as it counts. Thanks

The numbers are probably your clock - go into Date & Time in System Preferences and see if you have "show seconds" enabled. Uncheck that to disable the blinking seconds.

If it's not the clock, then it might be the time your Airport Base Station is connected to the internet. Click the Airport icon (wait for menu), move the cursor to your current network, and select the appropriate option from the submenu if you wish to turn it off.

If you're not using an Airport Base Station, then it's probably the clock.

Thanks for the help. I know it is not the time. But,as for base station connection , that makes more sense.
