I'm going to flordia in october for Orlando world street nationals and I was wondering if I use a video camera can I come home and then plug it into the imac edit the video and then burn it to a disc and give it out to my dad's friends to watch. Just wondering basically if I edit video then burn it to a blank dvd disc. Thanks just wondering.

Yes, assuming your iMac has iMovie and iDVD installed.

Yes, they come standard... just like nearly every computer these days.

The camera would have to have firewire. Or you will need an a->d converter.

Yeah, Windows Movie Maker, though there's probably something newer on Vista.

But it's crap. OK, maybe not, but I couldn't figure it out and gave up. Now I have a Mac

Chances are you won't hear about an update more than a week ahead of when it might be happening. But I'm getting cynical and starting to think that even if an iMac update arrives in the early fall, it probably won't be nearly as major as we'd all like, despite how overdue it is.

Ah well... Have fun though, and you'll be getting a great computer whenever you pick it up

Make sure its a mini DV camcorder with firewire. Don't get a HD or DVD camcorder. For more info read Macworld: Feature: Picking the perfect camcorder, Page 1

Check out camcorderinfo.com for camcorders. I recommend getting a 3chip miniDV for best colors.

HDV is pretty good, but you won't be able to burn a disc and just watch it on any TV (this is your intention, I guess, to have friends and family watch your video on a TV). AVCHD is even worse with hardware support. iMovie doesn't accept it, and you won't be able to burn a disc.

If you watch video on your monitor exclusively, then HDV would be an option. Mark the difference between HDV and AVCHD.

For your needs you'll be happier with miniDV, I guess.
